Today I rode my bike “to work”. At least, from the freeway to work, about 3miles. It’s a start.
The ride was actually too short, I didn’t really have a chance to get into a rhythm or get my heart pounding. So I’m looking for a bit of a longer “commute”. The morning air really felt great , and I felt like I was trucking along pretty good. It totally made me want to know how fast I was going though.
This reminds me that I need to get some pics of the machine up.

Trust me you don’t want to know how slow you were going! I find there are a lot of tech heads who derive pleasure from reviewing biometric stats on their workouts. I personally find this to be a drag. Really the best measure for your fitness is distance and time. You can figure out your speed from that if needed. But don’t get hung up on it. You really need to focus on sustained cardiovascular effort over time when you’re just getting started. One or two hour rides with moderate to moderately hard effort is what you need. Further data will confuse the issue. I know the human compulsion is to understand the nuances of how your body is burning calories and using oxygen, but the value of the data for the result you are looking for is a fine dot in the distance about the size of a pinprick on the moon. Burn more calories than you put in for over six months and all the puppy fat will come off! Ride hard four-five days a week each time for about an hour or two.
